Whirlpool - Hotpoint / Indesit Washing Machine Recall
Over 500,000 Hotpoint and Indesit brands of washing machine have been recalled by Whirlpool today. There have been an estimated 79 fires in the UK caused by a fault which develops over time. This most recent recall accounts for around 20% of the washing machines sold since 2014.

What is the fault?
The fault is in relation to a heating element in the machine that when activated, in some rare instances, can cause a component in the door lock system to overheat.
This poses a fire risk, depending on the product features.
What should consumers do if they feel that they have been affected?
Owners of Whirlpool branded Hotpoint and Indesit washing machines bought since October 2014 will need to enter the model and serial number of their appliance - found inside the door or on the back - to see if it is one of those affected. Previous Product Recall of Whirlpool Brands (22nd July 2019)
Whirlpool previously issued a recall on a number of Hotpoint, Indesit, Creda, Proline and Swan branded machines due to risk of fire. The previous recall was on the 22nd of July this year and saw the recall of 800,000 machines that were deemed to be at risk.
